Application of C-LIGHT optical module in PON network

PON (Passive Optical Network) is a low-cost oriented FTTx network application. It mainly uses point-to-multipoint optical transmission network structure and burst optical module to realize P2MP (Point to Multi) point-to-multipoint optical data communication. Compare with P2P (Point to Point)  ,The P2MP(point-to-multipoint )optical communication application has the advantages of lower cost, higher optical fiber utilization rate, higher bandwidth, higher security, operation and easier management, P2MP is more convenient and easier to expand and upgrade in the later period, which makes the market development of this application more stable. P2MP application has been extended to more emerging application fields such as large data acquisition, industrial Internet, 5G base station data forwarding and so on.

The PON network structure composition has several core parts includes OLT (Optical Line Terminal),  ONT (Optical Network Terminal, referred to as ONT in the ITU-T system,IEEE system called ONU Optical Network Unit), ODN (Optical Distribution Network):

OLT

Generally known as the central office PON switching equipment in the industry, the equipment is generally composed of an upstream Ethernet optical port, a downstream OLT optical port, a management board, and a power supply. C-LIGHT's point-to-point 100G /25G /10G Ethernet optical module is used in the upstream Ethernet optical port. The point-to-multipoint XGSPON OLT, XGPON OLT, Combo OLT, GPON OLT, and EPON OLT optical modules of C-Light Network are used in the downstream optical port of the device.

ONT

Common ONT devices include home boxes commonly known as "optical modems" and some PON ONT switches with Ethernet interfaces. C-LIGHT's ONT optical modules are divided into GPON ONT optical modules and XGSPON/XGPON ONT optical modules, both of which are used in such devices.

ODN

The ODN network is generally composed of ODF distribution frame, PLC light distribution line, PON EDFA optical amplifier, corridor junction box, home quick connection cable, etc.

Technical advantages of C-LIGHT optical modules for PON applications

The product supports high speed, large protocol span and complete varieties. The product supports 25G PON, XGSPON, XGPON, GPON, EPON, 10GBase, 40GBase, 100GBase, 400GBase.

There are many products with different transmission distances. For example, downlink modules include XGSPON OLT E1 E2 D-level high-power optical modules and GPON 10dBm ultra-high power OLT optical modules; The uplink modules include gray light 10 km ~ 20 km optical modules and DWDM CWDM 40 km 80km medium and long distance optical modules.

There are more advantageous technologies. For example, most products support industrial applications. A TX RX burst mode may be support.

The cost advantage is obvious. C-LIGHT adopts both foreign and domestic chip solutions in the design and selection of core driver chips and lasers, and provides more business options for different customers.
